Why I welcome the blogerati

Instinctively it does make you feel a bit miffed.

All those years spent honing your craft and now anyone can get their most extraordinarily dull ramblings published.

It's the sort of feeling you get when a favourite, obscure song is re-released and everybody's humming it. Whole of the Moon was mine to share among the musical cognoscenti from late 1985 and then, five years later, it went to No3 when they promoted it as a single.

It happened to Rock the Casbah and I'm dreading hearing Tinseltown is in the Rain on a jeans advert one of these days. Blue Nile, in case you're wondering.

You feel as though a private pleasure has been diluted.

That feeling is, of course, nonsense. The song's still great and you're more likely to stumble across it on Radio 2 - what's the problem?

My point is, you knew I'd eventually get to it, that quality work is always recognised.

Be it writing or the singing of songs. There may be more writers but excellence is still a limited resource. So bring them on - I relish the competition.
